  2. Thank you, and you are very kind and affirming! A piece of the puzzle for me is choosing to receive and believe the affirmation others give me. Do you have any photos of your water color creations on your blog? We usually fall short of the idea in our mind when painting, I think, but it's a pleasure to do and often catches a bit of the flavor--which makes it worth it!

  3. Elena, Thanks for asking about my water colors. You are right about the joy of capturing flavor in painting. That's about all I capture. I have very little computer skill and don't know how to do things like put my mucis or pictures on my blog. But they are on my facebook page. I think they are generally available. The photo album is called Dance on the Moon. They are 25 illustrations I did for a song I wrote for my granddaughter when she was 1. I wrote a song I wanted to share with you, but don't know how. When I turned 50, my eldest daughter tunred 10. She wrote a book of poetry for me as a present. When she became pregnant (years later) I set 13 of these poems as songs I could sing to her daughter. Someone put them on a site: newellhendricks.bandcamp.com, but you have to pay to hear them. They are in the album, songs from Momma and Grampa. I thought of this song because of something I saw on this site about finding a special place. Here is the poem, in any case.

    lyrics
    A SPECIAL PLACE
    I roam the hills afar
    Until I find the place
    To be alone

    To think a lot
    Where freedom and peace
    Are natural habits
    Practiced all the time
    Like music in a valley
    Or colors in a vine

    My mind roams afar
    To find this place
    Around the mountains
    Around this space
And at last it settles down
    Among some Hemlock trees
    With a bunny
    And a squirrel
    A place
    Just for me

    1. I love the poem! And what a wonderful thing to put your daughter's childhood poems into songs for her daughter! What a beautiful gift from her to you, and from you to your granddaughter.

Place is a fascinating concept to me--both physical spaces that are meaningful to us and metaphorical places we create for ourselves and others.
