Shadow and Still Water

I wish I could give you
the sweet sound of water dropping
into a still pool.

I wish I could give you
the stillness to hear the water
and be comforted.

I wish the quiet waters and the willows
and the comforting, silly frog
songs could ease your soul.

I want for you the sweet water,
the easing of coiled pain--but if not,
at least the salt water sprinkle of God's tears
warm against your face.

  1. There's a haiku-like serenity to the first two stanzas, and the language of the latter two stanzas are of surpassing beauty. A long way of saying that I concur wholeheartedly with Dr Impson's assessment!
