When my father was young
and wrestling, he saw
a vision of a huge man
smiling at him, and heard
a baptism of drops
on the top of his car
from a blue sky.
I wonder now, as I walk
at angles with the visions
my father had for me,
what Dad would think,
and if he'd be pleased,
and if he would
understand.
One thing is certain--
how we long to know,
how we really must know
that when our Father sees us
He smiles.

Poignant and hopeful at the same time. Thank you, as always, for writing and for sharing what you write.
ReplyDeleteAs a father, I think about this all the time, and I wince when I think of times I may have communicated anything other than a smile to my daughters. I still have the chance, now, and I am consciously letting them know that I smile on their lives. It is SO important, what our fathers think. And as a father, I also know we want our daughters to smile at us every bit as much as they want the smiles from us. I have my opinion of what your father thinks of you, and there is a lot of pride involved.
